Providing an avenue of healing and community safety through promoting awareness, education and activism. Our goals are to eliminate the reasons for gun violence and racism from our neighborhoods and to provide spaces plus events that are inclusive and diverse.
Meet our Board of Directors
Carmen Allen-Adeoye is our Board President. She was born in Michigan, and raised in Marion, Illinois. She serves her community in a variety of ways, and is dedicated to assisting the underserved. Carmen has been a longtime social activist. She serves as Chair for the Williamson County Democratic Women and Vice Chair of the Williamson County Board of Selective Service. She is an Officer of Loye Logistics, Co-Chair of Williamson County NAACP, Executive and Board Member of Connect 360, and Vice President of Carbondale United. Carmen's priorities lie in promoting and accomplishing motivational change and leadership skills for youth and young adults.
Vivian Robinson was born at Fort Gordon, Georgia into a military family. Her formative years were spent traveling across the USA and Africa and Germany. She graduated Cum Laude from Southeast Missouri State University with a B S in Psychology and a minor in Biology. That was followed by a Master of Social Work degree from Southern Illinois University. In 1980 Vivian started public service with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, where she trained foster parents and worked to improve the quality of life and education for the underserved youth. Vivian received the Congressional Angels in Adoption Award in 1999. Vivian serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused or neglected children.
Faith Y. Miller, RDH, MSEd, is an Associate Professor and Director, Dental Hygiene School of Health Sciences, SIU-C. Ms. Miller is a Registered Dental Hygienist with 27 years of experience in a variety of practice settings, including migrant farm worker and American Indian dental health settings. She serves on a variety of Commissions and Boards to include being a founding Board member of Carbondale United. She is a member of the Carbondale NAACP. Ms. Miller is also a veteran of the U. S. Army and Army Reserves, serving from 1980 to 1991. She has received three Army Achievement medals.
Jeff grew up in the disadvantaged area of Cairo, Illinois, where he discovered his artistic talent. He received two degrees from SIU, spent three years working in Social Services, and currently works at SIUC as the Director of Exploratory Student Advisement and the Center for Learning Support Services. Jeff is an adjunct instructor for Shawnee Community College and John A. Logan Community College, teaching speech and communication courses. Jeff has a deep passion for helping others to acheive their dreams and goals.
Darrell Wimberly has pastored the East Liberty Christian Church, for over twenty years. He serves as Dean of Students and as the Assistant Football Coach at Marion High School. Darrell has been married to his wife Deon for over twenty five years. Pastor Wimberly is father to five, grandfather to five. Darrell was a free-agent tryout in the NFL for the New York Jets in 1982, was a three year starter at the University of Louisville, (was Outside Linbacker 1980-1982), ad was All-State Defensive End at Butler High School in Louisville KY in 1978.
Karen Knodt serves as pastor at First Christian Church, Carbondale. She came to Carbondale in 1985 to serve as a campus minister at the Interfaith Center. She then served as an intentional interim pastor in Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, and St. Louis. In addition to being called to local faith communities as places of learning, serving, caring, fun, and worship, she believes following Jesus commits us to create beloved communities that celebrate all people, end poverty, racism, violence, and destruction of God’s creation.
